Jodo – Silence of Movement <\/i>is a performance based on collaboration between Japanese calligrapher Yukina Yamamoto, performance artist Tuuli Malla and artist Mari M\u00e4ki\u00f6.\u00a0 The performance is part of M\u00e4ki\u00f6\u2019s exhibition Kagekiyodo<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Starting point for the performance have been the japanese characters \u2018jodo\u2019 \u9759\u52d5 which describe silence and movement. We have interpreted \u2018jodo\u2019 through calligraphy, movement and sound – exploring together what kind of stillness and movement arise from writing the characters. Because Malla and M\u00e4ki\u00f6 are new to Japanese calligraphy, the interpretations are a combination of Yamamoto\u2019s indepth skill and lingering with the unknown.<\/p>\n

Yukina Yamamoto is a Japanese calligraphy artist based in Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4. She has studied the skill of calligraphy for over 20 years (https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/yukinascalligraphy\/<\/a>). Tuuli Malla is a performer and installation artist who works site specifically and is inspired by Butoh dance (www.tuulimeanswind.com<\/a>). Mari M\u00e4ki\u00f6 is an artist who works primarily with sound and installation (www.marimakio.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Due to the prevailing covid situation the performance can be attended by max. 15 audience members in order to keep safe distance. We ask participants to sign up by emailing mari@marimakio.com<\/a>. Please come to the performance only if you are completely healthy and remember to take care of good hand hygiene and keeping distance to others.<\/p>\n
