We would especially like to see new productions of visual arts or photography previously unforeseen in Turku and suited for the space of Kunsthalle Turku. We are interested in both traditional visual arts and photography exhibitions as well as multidisciplinary and boundary-breaking productions. Proposals by artist collectives or curators are also accepted. We encourage artists to propose participatory and alternative events to be organised as part of the exhibition program.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibitions last 5 weeks including two days days for installing, one opening and one demounting day. The opening is, in general, arranged on the Thursday preceding the first day of the exhibition. The available exhibition periods are:<\/p>\n<p>7 May \u2013 7 June 2020<br \/>\n11 June \u2013 12 July 2020<br \/>\n4 September \u2013 4 October 2020<br \/>\n9 October \u2013 8 November 2020<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE SPACES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kunsthalle Turku is located in The Old Town Hall, next to the Great Old Square in the heart of Turku. In this open call we are looking for exhibitions regarding our two galleries, both located on the second floor of Kunsthalle Turku. You can propose an exhibition for a single space or both spaces. <a href=\"https:\/\/turuntaidehalli.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TurunTaidehalli_NAYTTELYTILAT2020.pdf\">Ground plan of exhibition spaces (pdf).<\/a><\/p>\n<p>EXHIBITION SPACE 1<br \/>\nSecond floor, 52+20+40=112 m2<br \/>\nThe larger gallery on the second floor consists of a rectangular space with a row of windows facing the square on one side; there is a lot of natural light in the space. The gallery contains unusual elements for an exhibition space, such as wide grey floorboards, windows and a tiled fireplace. The exhibition space on the second floor is suitable for both two-dimensional artwork hanging on the walls, as well as different kinds of installations. The space is lit by gallery-quality spotlights.<\/p>\n<p>EXHIBITION SPACE 2<br \/>\nSecond floor, 34 m2<br \/>\nThe space resembles a white cube and has walls for hanging artwork, wide floorboards and windows facing the inner yard. It can also be darkened for screening purposes. The space is located next to the bigger gallery, with a direct entry from the staircase. The ceiling is fitted with gallery-quality spotlights.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SERVICES AND TECHNIQUE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The exhibitions, as well as exhibition-related arrangements, are free of charge for the artists. If participatory, alternative programs are arranged alongside the exhibition, the artist will be compensated for this work according to agreement.\u00a0The exhibition organiser is responsible for the installation, \u00a0transport of the artwork, transport insurance, exhibition insurance and his\/her own travel costs.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition contract includes the following services:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rent of the exhibition space and supervision of the gallery for the duration of the exhibition<\/li>\n<li>Design, printing and distribution of the exhibition poster, including 10 copies for the artist<\/li>\n<li>Proofreading the exhibition text and list of artwork, as well as related translations<\/li>\n<li>Sending the press release and electronic invitation to Kunsthalle\u2019s own contact lists<\/li>\n<li>Advertising the exhibition in Kunsthalle&#8217;s own websites, separate events calendars and social media<\/li>\n<li>Assistance during the days of installation and taking down of the exhibition<\/li>\n<li>Recording the number of visitors and following the media coverage, documenting the exhibition<\/li>\n<li>Contacting the press, arranging the opening (including snacks and drinks)<\/li>\n<li>Organising the sales of artwork and related material (30% commission)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Artists can use the gallery\u2019s equipment free of charge (subject to availability). The artist is responsible for other possible equipment and the costs of those, as well as installation and technical support if needed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>APPLICATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The application process takes place digitally. Please fill this <a href=\"https:\/\/turuntaidehalli.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/hakulomake.pdf\">application form (link)<\/a>, save it as pdf and name with your own name. In addition, write an exhibition application including the following elements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an exhibition plan including suggestions for possible events to be organised alongside the exhibition<\/li>\n<li>CV and<\/li>\n<li>images of work to be exhibited or examples of previous production; in case of media art please attach a link to online video or sound work (URL).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please send your exhibition application as a PDF file in the same email with the application form to the address taidehalli2020@gmail.com. The email must be received by Sunday 4 August 2019 23:59 (EEST). Please write \u201cN\u00c4YTTELYHAKU 2020 + YOUR NAME\u201d in the subject of the email.<\/p>\n<p>Although we prefer electronic applications, paper versions will also be accepted. Fill in the online form, print it and send it with the proposal to Turun Taidehalli, Vanha Suurtori 5, 20500 Turku, Finland. You can also submit the proposal to Kunsthalle Turku in person. Proposals must be received by Sunday 4 August 2019 23:59 (EEST).<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition committee of Kunsthalle Turku consists of members of Photographic Centre Peri and Turku Artists\u2019 Association. The committee will make their decision during August. Two of the main artist communities from the area, Turku Artists\u2019 Association and Photographic Centre Peri organise exhibitions and events in Kunsthalle Turku, and maintain an Artoteque, a digital studio for visual artists as well as a library of material related to photography and Art. Kunsthalle Turku is a living centre for creativity, art mediation, meetings, art services and events.<\/p>\n<p>Since opening in February 2019, Kunsthalle Turku has hosted 14 exhibitions and shown works by over 40 artists and hosted more than 20 000 visitors.
